Shinsegae Duty Free has introduced an AI-based safety monitoring setup at its Myeongdong flagship store and at an integrated logistics center near Incheon Airport.
According to The Moodie Davitt Report, the system watches CCTV feeds in two stages: vision AI flags a possible incident, then a vision-language model reviews surrounding context before control staff are notified. Asia Economy likewise reports the VLM step as a check on whether a candidate event is a genuine safety risk rather than an automatic escalation.
Company material describes the deployments covering both a customer-facing store and a logistics operation, with alerts going to control personnel rather than the system independently deciding how every incident is handled.
Shinsegae has not published camera counts, model vendors, alert volumes, false-positive rates or incident-reduction figures.
